They said to me, "Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire."
Nehemiah 1:3
There was no one threatening Jerusalem. There were no armies at the gate waiting to invade. But still, the fact that their defenses were down was cause for great concern. Trouble is not the same as danger. Many times we are "safe" simply because we aren't a threat to anyone else.
